New Media Vietnam Wins Two Awards

(HO CHI MINH CITY – August 15, 2007) The New Media Vietnam office won awards for two of its recent campaigns, Castrol’s Tut Xe That Me microsite and OMO’s 2007 Tet website.

Castrol wanted an original way to communicate their brand to reach their target audience, young Vietnamese motorbike owners in their late teens and early twenties. New Media created the Tut Xe That Me (Pimp My Bike) campaign, a contest calling for online submissions of broken down motorbikes which included a photo of the bike and a short description of why the contestant wanted their bike ‘pimped’. Users were prompted to vote for their favorites and every two weeks the top-voted bike starred in a short ‘webisode’ (internet-based filmed episode) where upcoming model and film actor Tommy Tran and Vietnam’s Top Rapper Tien Dat (Mr. Dee) co-hosted a four to five-minute film where the bike was upgraded with various parts, accessories, paint, and in one case a portable DVD player.

“This campaign really let us show the Vietnamese audience how they can engage and make a difference through the digital medium,“ said Aryeh Sternberg, Creative Director for New Media. “Our team had a fun time filming the shows and watching all of the submissions come in.” The campaign won the global award for Most Original Concept from Group M’s Mindshare division.

New Media works closely with Unilever in Vietnam producing a wide range of digital campaigns. The Tet Lunar New Year Good Deeds campaign for OMO detergent was one of the biggest produced in 2007. It consisted of a wide range of flash and rich media banners, a microsite including e-cards, a writing contest, and web to mobile e-greetings. The finale of the campaign was a 3D virtual Good Deeds video game, produced and filmed by New Media in the streets of Vietnam. The overall integrated (360?) campaign won the Asian Marketing Effectiveness Award 2007 for Integrated Campaign.

Mr. Russell Conrad, CEO of New Media commented, “The Vietnam office has been open only a short time and yet we have proven our ability as a Creative powerhouse in the digital medium. The team worked hard on these campaigns and it paid off.” New Media Vietnam also received strong praise from Unilever following the successful execution of the Vietnam Idol official website.
